The ProBoards Library Awards
Hello everyone! I'm pleased to announce the first (of hopefully many) annual ProBoards Library Awards, that will celebrate the accomplishments of our creative community in the fields of plugin and theme development! As many of you already know, the ProBoards Theme and Plugin Libraries are made up of submissions from the gracious programmers and designers of the ProBoards community who have volunteered their time for us and elected to share their creations with all ProBoards forums by submitting them to the Library. These awards seek to allow the community to voice their gratitude and admiration towards these designers and programmers. Plus, if your theme/plugin wins one of these categories, you get some RAD PRIZES. Those are outlined below. Plugin Nominations Thread
Nominations are closed!
We will be collecting nominations in this thread for the 4 possible categories. The rules state that it's one nomination per category per person, and those nominations will be tallied and the winning plugins will be voted upon after nominations have closed. For any further questions, refer to the FAQ below or ask in this thread.
Please review these categories:
Best New Feature This category is for plugins that add new features or functionality to your forum.
Most Fun This category is for plugins that have entertained you and your members, or otherwise have provided a good time.
Best Name This category is for plugins whose authors have taken the time to come up with the perfect name.
Plugin of the Year This category is for the plugin that you think deserves the prestigious Plugin of the Year award for 2013. FAQ:
Q: Why are we having awards for library items?A: For many reasons (like for fun!), but one big one is so that the community has a chance to recognize the effort of content creators that spend their time doing work for other ProBoards users for free.Q: How do I nominate a library item for an award?A: It's as easy as posting in this thread with a link to the library item you're nominating, as well as which category you're nominating them for.
The only requirements are that your nomination must be a link to the library (links to theme or plugin files attached in posts or hosted on Dropbox, for example, are not acceptable) and you may only nominate one item per category.
Some additional information: If you attempt to nominate more than one plugin per category, whichever valid nominations you submitted FIRST will be counted, and the rest disregarded. You also may not nominate your own work.Q: What happens when nominations are closed on March 12th, 2014?A: No additional nominations will be collected after midnight on the night of the cutoff date. The next morning, the nominations will be counted up, and the items that have received the most nominations will be included in the final voting process where members will vote in a poll. The creators of whatever plugins are the winners of that voting process will be provided with the awards.Q: Is there a ProBoards Library Award portion for theme designers?A: Of course! Click here!Q: Can ProBoards plugins (the Zombie plugin, spell check, etc) be nominated?A: While plugins made by ProBoards admins can be nominated (an example might be Brian Ordonez's Sidebar Redux), official ProBoards plugins like the Zombie game cannot be nominated.Q: What prizes do I get if my plugin or theme wins?!A: Winners of the Plugin/Theme of the Year 2013 award will be given the following: * Ultimate glory* A special "featured" spot on the ProBoards Library that draws attention to your item * A free ProBoards mousepad * A free month of ProBoards+ * A Designer/Coder badge here on Support (depending on whether it's a theme or plugin that has won) * An awesome secret badge that is being added into the system for the purpose of these awards!
Winners of the three sub-categories will be given the following: * A special "featured" spot on the ProBoards Library that draws attention to your item * A free month of ProBoards+ * A Designer/Coder badge here on Support (depending on whether it's a theme or plugin that has won) * An awesome secret badge that is being added into the system for the purpose of these awards!

After having some time to mull it over, I have my plugin nominations ready. For best new feature, it was a very close toss-up between a few, but I eventually ended up picking Post Quarantine by Wormopolis. A widely acclaimed moderation tool that allows you to prevent certain user's posts from showing to others until reviewed by staff members, this one was sorely needed. For most fun, I nominate Turn Forum Upside Down by hpmad. April fool's is coming up. Just sayin', admins. For best name, I pick the Peekaboo side table by Pebble. I figured the "Peekaboo" part was a general web term for any element that pops out from the side, but I guess that one was a ProBoards original from v4. Nice. Finally, for PLUGIN OF THE YEAR 2013, I nominate the Sidebar Redux by our very own Brian. It goes without saying that this heavyweight plugin can roll with the best of them. It's convenient simplicity alongside the high demand for side tables means countless forums happily make use of it. It should be crowned king, I say.

There needs to be another one of these, soon. I had the hardest time picking! I could think of at least 5 worthy plugins for every single one and I'm distressed that I can't name them all here (as that would take up a lot of room and I assume would be bad of me to start a trend lol) and I can't ensure every deserving plugin creator is nominated. =( So if I don't name you or your plugin, please realize I still probably love it to pieces, this decision is stressful. xD Best New Feature - I nominate Awards System by Todge for the widely adaptable plugin that assists many sites in expanding their creativity. I have seen it used as badges, prizes, inventory, record information, and much more. It's diverse, easy to use, and customizable beyond belief! I know without this plugin, my site would be pointless, and I'm sure others feel similarly. =3 Most Fun - I nominate Chess System by Wormopolis because it is a huge plugin that consumed so much of his time and resulted in this fantastic plugin. You can play a full-on chess game with all the possibilities accounted for! You can drag and drop! How much better does it get? There are a lot of 'game' type plugins at this point but there are few that I imagine took this much thinking and has such great pay-off in the end. And on top of the great gameplay itself, it's also highly customizable and the option to switch out boards and all this jazz and to use the play OR the FEN string editor... it rocks my socks, man. Best Name - To be honest, I have to nominate Yootil Library by Peter because it's a made-up word and it sounds so legitimate. I never knew it was made-up until I read the OP explaining its meaning (behind "yootil") and then I was just laughing. So creative and interesting, and for such a serious, professional plugin, too! It's become a common term for Proboards, just accepted as something we say, and anyone who can make a word that integrated in so many people's vocabulary deserves recognition. Plugin of the Year - I nominate Drop Down Nav by Shorty. This was the hardest one of all to decide, obviously, and so I basically went to my admin Manage panel and looked at the ones I use (since there are some I wanted to nominate that I don't personally use and going this route helped me narrow it down a touch) and decided what I really couldn't run a forum without. I came up with a few plugins that I truly view as essential and, from there, picked the ones I thought would be not only essential to me, but essential to many forums--and though several still fit this description, in the end it came down to Drop Down Nav. My main reason is it greatly enhances not only functionality but visual appearance and navigation. It lets me make things look cool while putting tons of ability into it--for example, I probably link to.. I dunno, 30 different places in my nav bar, thanks to this. It's simple, unbelievably useful for guests and new members, works great with fitting into your forum's aesthetic, and very well-done overall.

For best new feature, I nominate Dislike System by Shorty. I was hoping someone would create a dislike system compatible with proboard's like button eventually, glad someone finally did. For most fun, I second David Clark's nomination of Turn Forum Upside Down by hpmad. For best name, I nominate WormoFade Afiliate Table by Wormopolis. I like "WormoFade", it's a creative term. Finally, for PLUGIN OF THE YEAR 2013, there are a few that come to mind, but I nominate Disable editing after a set time by Todge. Like the above poster, for me, this one came down to which of the plug-ins I use do I find most valuable. This is the one.

Hey jrryan - nice choices, but for the nomination to be counted, we need the links to lead to the library page for the plugin instead of the support thread.

We have a portion of the awards that go to themes, (we've lumped them together) but there's just one category pertaining specifically to a theme with a great custom layout template modification. There's no awards category for standalone layout template modifications or guides this year, however.

Sorry, but I'm going to vote for ProBoards Zombies as plug-in of the year even though it's not allowed.
Because I've been infected.

This is more difficult than I thought. I'm having a really hard time picking one single plugin for the Best New Feature category. There's seriously so many deserving ones. Plugin of the Year: Monetary SystemI honestly can't believe Peter hasn't been nominated for this, especially for this plugin. Do I need to say why I nominate it, because it surely speaks for itself? Edit: Best New Feature: Color Palette by TodgeIt's great to be able to store your favourite colours. As a designer, it's a great feature.

This is a nearly impossible request, particularly since its the first time and there are so many awesome plug ins, by so many wonderful and gifted programmers. Best New Feature The Image Resizer, because it automatically resizes images to your specs. This means as an admin you don't have to worry abut super sized images again and members don't have to worry either. Sometimes they post in a hurry and don't realize an image is HUGE. No more worries with this plug in. Image Resizer by TodgeMost Fun This plug in allows for actual interaction between members in a game. How cool is that? I scoured the net looking for a widget or some script that would allow for this when I first joined pb and couldn't find anything that didn't send your members off to some other site. The fact that members can play against each other and stay at the forum makes it a keeper! Chess by Wormopolis Best Name Because it deals with all things money of course, be it stocks, wages to mods and earnings for posters, you can bestow your generosity by donating now to members less fortunate! lol Monetary by PeterPlugin of the Year The plug in that allows you to have an open forum, because it sits in the background keeping a watchful eye on spammers, malcontents, and lets the admin, mods etc see what gets posted before the regular members see it, is the Quarantine plugin. A must have on any forum, for the spammer protection alone. Quarantine by Wormopolis

In spirit of the competition, I will refrain from nominating any of my own plugins no matter how much I like them... Best New Feature:so many contenders, but one that embodies the term "new feature" would have to be Style Tag by Bennett 🚀. it adds a lot of functionality to the posts and some of what people have designed based on it it remarkable. Most Fun: Live Drawing by Peter would have to take my money and shutup Best Name:as much as I pride myself on tryng to come up with great names, the plugin Arf by Virgil Sovereign made me laugh the first time I saw it POTY:hands down, the most useful and evolving plugin is the Monetary System by Peter. It is crucial to so many forums and no other money code is ever going to be able to compete with it. the extra features have pushed it from a simple "x posts = y dollars" code to something that completely makes sense in an RPG world, as well as just a fan forum. well done.. and it isnt even Version 1.0 yet!
