Adding new smilies

Well I have tried using Todges plugin and I just cannot make it work at all. I have chosen the ones I wanted to add and copied the code given on the site,pasted it onto the lines in the smiley box(under Admin) and nothing happens. Anyone help?

Which plugin are you using?

It sounds like the Smilie Management plugin, if so, that plugin will not allow extra smilies, all it does is make adding your smilies to the smilie dropdown plugin easier.

If you think you have the correct plugin, could you please Post in the Support Thread, where you're more likely to get more help from other users of the code, and remember to include a link to your forum so that I can try to see what's going on.

It was smiley management. I asked a before and that was what I was told to do! Maybe I did not make myself clear. I already have the drop down smiley list. I just want to add new ones please!

Just to make you both aware, Todge and majaffa59, it looks like the ChatterBox Close forum only has the Smilie Management plugin installed and does not have the actual smilie dropdown plugin installed.

You'll need to install the actual smiley dropdown plugin in the thread Todge linked, majaffa59, or you can add additional smileys to your default ones by going to Admin > Themes > Theme Manager > your theme > Images. There's a section in there where you can upload additional smileys.

Hello. I am new here, so please bear with me. I am not very computer savvy, and am trying to add smilies to our forums board. I have installed the Smiley Management and Smiley Drop Down plug-ins. Now I would like to ADD my own smilies in addition to the default ones. The problem I am having is I don't understand the "URL" thing. The smilies I wish to add are in the form of GIF files on my PC. How do I transfer or import them to our forum boards?

antacidobject66, To use the smiley drop down plugin, you will need to upload your smileys from your PC to a hosting site such as Photobucket or Imgur. Once done, from there you can get the url for the image. Be sure to use the Direct URL as both sites provide you with differing urls for different areas of implementation.

One other question: Is there a limit to the number of smilies that we can have on the board?
