It does indeed - different variables represent different information of course, so the appropriate operators will depend on the context. Not sure if that'll fix the issue outright, but if not we'll take a closer look.

!$[variable] checks if that variable has a value that isn't blank or is greater than 0 if it's a number. Basically it's checking if anything exists at all in the value the variable outputs.
!= is an operator that stands for isn't equal to and must be checked against another value or variable.

Oh ohkay that makes sense! So "if this post is new" qualifies for !$ but "if the board ID is 2" qualifies for != That makes perfect sense! Thank you for explaining it to me, I'm glad to not be coding blind but actually understand what I'm using.
