my suggestion, limit guests, make every one register before viewing the board, take off the, part where you HAVE to approve the new member, unless you really want to

I had the same problem. I closed my forum to guest posting for a few (3 or 4) weeks, then opened a category at a time each week back up to guests. The spambot always seemed to post in the same category on my forum, so it was reopened last. I haven't had a problem since. I never had to use the approve new members feature. As a courtesy to your guests, you could explain the situation in the news fader.

They do it based on finding sites from search engines where a page is indexed showing guest posting
We are working on a new method for guest posting

I did not want to disablee guest from posting on my boards either, this China spam started hittinng 3 posts a day on EVERY SINGLE THREAD on my board...I've been forced to disable guests, ban all of the ISPS AND report all of the ISP's to the FBI
It's frustrating cause I put so much work into the board only to have that trash keyword spamed all over my site. It got to the point that I was spending so much time each day removing those spam posts, that I didn't have time to update my board...I agree with the other posters here, disable guest posting...I hated to do it to, but inn the end it was either that or close the board
