Board: solariaweyr.proboards.com/user/11I have a bit of a weird problem. My co-admin has recently told me that the cog image you click on to get moderating options for topics and so forth has disappeared for her. She can still access the admin panel and use that, but the cog for moderating boards is gone. I haven't touched anything in the admin panel to change that, and I've checked everything I think it can be and I'm just at a loss. I can see the cog myself.

Hey Kalimalian, I tried logging in as the user you linked and I find that I'm able to see the cog dropdown without issue. Sometimes it is possible for it to disappear in cases where a browser is having difficulty executing JavaScript for some reason though - can you see if they're able to try another browser, or their browser's respective Incognito/Private browsing mode to see if it works then? If it does we'll have an idea of where to go from there.

Thanks for the super quick reply! I've linked her to this topic so she can try that

From her:
"I can see it in Chrome, but it's still not showing in Firefox. I logged in at work to see if it was just my laptop, but it wasn't there on those computers either. Perhaps it is a Firefox issue? I know I haven't changed any settings, so maybe there is something up with the coding for PB with Firefox?"

It would seem the problem is with Firefox, then. Have her try clearing her cookies and cache files from Firefox by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+DEL with the browser open, and setting the time range to "Everything". Let us know if that does it

And her latest update:
'I have done almost everything already to try to fix it on my laptop. I've gone and cleared cookies and cache, I took it a step further and cleared all histories too just in case that might help. I updated my Java, apparently a new patch went out, so I got that taken care of. I'm not sure what is up, but as of last night it still isn't there.
Now the interesting thing is that in just clearing up stuff on the work comp, I got the thing back there. The important thing to note, though, is that we don't regularly update any of the software and we don't let it auto-update because it occasionally messes with our older computers.
I don't know if this means that an update occurred somewhere else and is clashing, but so long as I can still access the admin page I'll just hope it comes back on its own someday."

So the issue is isolated to the work computer that isn't updated?

Other way round - her work computer has the cog back, but her home one still isn't showing it.

If she's already cleared her cookie/cache data out of Firefox completely and it's still not working, can you have her check her extension/add-on section for Firefox and disable anything unrecognized in there?

Okay, so right from the get-go when I noticed the problem I first tried changing sub-accounts and then logged out and back in. When that didn't work I went through and cleared my cookies/cache in Firefox. I went a step further and then cleared the entire history, just in case. At this point, I figured maybe it was a PB glitch and left it for the night. I went to work and found the same issue there on that computer, however clearing the cookies/cache worked on that computer. When I got home, I tried once more on my personal computer. I also checked with Chrome and found no problem, but it has continued to persist in Firefox. I checked my add-ons and extensions and found an out-of-date Java, which I then updated, then restarted Firefox, but again there was no change. As of today, I have checked for any more updates that may be available and found none for any of my few additional applications. I cleared my cookies/cache again, however it continues to have no effect.
There is one interesting situation where I had the cog returned on my second day upon opening a new tab via a link on the site. Once I navigated away, it was gone again and going back to that page did not return it. I suspect that may have been a fluke instance, but it might give some extra insight to the problem.

Hey there,
If you use Firefox's Private Browsing mode (Firefox menu > New Private browsing window) and log in with that, can you let me know if the cog shows for you then?

It's very strange that it would be showing in Chrome and not in Firefox's Private Browsing -- do you have Internet Explorer or Safari installed by chance? What's the result in that browser? If you see it there, I would advise upgrading/reinstalling your copy of Firefox as I'm currently stumped as to why it's only not showing in that.

Okay. I opened my IE and found that the cog is present there as well. I upgraded my Firefox and the cog is still not present. Due to how many links I have bookmarked and saved in Firefox, I am shy of uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox unless that will guarantee a fix and return the cog. Since I can still access my Admin station simply by navigating there through the address, I am not hard-pressed to have an immediate fix. This a mild annoyance.

Does the cog show here on Support?
