I have a foam pad on my bed, it works alright and it's not 200 dollars, I want to say it was 90 or so at walmart, but it wears pretty significantly. I'll have to buy a new one in a few months.

Several years back I spent about $90 on a memory foam mattress topper. It was okay but after a while I was starting to get back problems. I'm positive it was the cheap mattress underneath it. The topper added a little comfort but now that I've dropped around $1000 on a decent memory foam mattress I won't go back. You spend a large amount of your life sleeping. Invest in that time.

Yeah! I have a twin extra tall because it was for a giant man (no I'm not using a second hand mattress, my dad worked for the company and they returned it the next day so we got it for resale), it's pretty nice! It's lasted about two years?

Yeah I can see why this ones 10 inches bigger so I dont know if it'll deflate anytime soon. Kind of lame theres only 1 year warranty.

I have a memory foam mattress.  It's not a 'Tempur'....it's a 'Silent Night' if I remember rightly.  Only cost £160 on eBay. Best mattress I ever bought and I've been married for 30 years....

My main concern is it getting hard since I read that temperature can cause it to go bad.

Fork out the money and go with a Tempurpedic. I have that and it's wonderful. It is not the same as Memory Foam but it is supposed to be better. It has a lifetime guarantee and the only way you could ultimately wreck it is by placing something super hot directly on the mattress which would cause it to melt. Mine also came with a mattress cover that keeps away dust mites. It's expensive, but well worth it. With a lifetime guarantee, there is no need to ever spend a lot of money again on a mattress.

Best thing to do is investigate before making a big purchase. That pretty much goes without saying on anything that could set you back a few dollars!

Well, I saved for it. The fact that it will last forever is one of the main things that grabbed me. Not having to ever buy another mattress is fine with me. So a thousand dollars is a small price to pay. Think of how much you will spend replacing the mattress every few years...
