ive been looking for ways to do this, i did this with no problems in the shoutbox but the create thread blocks you from editing that stuff. I want to hide the smiley button because i have special emoticons that i dont want to be easy to find.

You should be able to edit the raw html, that would be very helpful.

If you just want to hide the smiley BBCode button, you can use CSS for that.  Go to Admin > Themes > Advanced Styles & CSS > Style Sheet tab, then scroll all the way to the bottom of the style sheet and paste this at the bottom: li.button.button-insertSmiley > img {
display: none;
