Forum URL: hootyowl@proboards.com
I want to change the online status of my members from text to an image.
I found this, by Craig, but no instructions on where to put it.
<span style="color: #{if $[user.is_online]}e6de19{else}FF0000{/if}; font-weight: bold;"> {if $[user.is_online]} <img src=" URL OF ONLINE IMAGE " alt=" Online " /> {else} <img src=" URL OF OFFLINE IMAGE " alt=" Offline " /> {/if} </span>
Thanks for your help. JJ

Hi, JJ. That can go in either the mini-profile or user profile layout template.

Thanks, Brian. I figured that, but not exactly how to do it. I did find the "if user is online" bit in the mini profile, but it doesn't look anything like what Craig posted. I didn't find anything like that in the profile. This is what I found in the mini profile

Replace:
{if $[user.is_online]}<br /><span class="italic">Member is Online</span>{/if}
With:
<span style="color: #{if $[user.is_online]}e6de19{else}FF0000{/if}; font-weight: bold;"> {if $[user.is_online]} <img src=" URL OF ONLINE IMAGE " alt=" Online " /> {else} <img src=" URL OF OFFLINE IMAGE " alt=" Offline " /> {/if} </span>

I've seen that quite a lot, jrryan, but it just doesn't appeal to me. I'm not into blinking stuff, but I thank you for the feedback.

What topic did you get that from, JJ, if you still have it at hand.

Sorry, I can't find it again, Craig. It was something I did a search for and was about 'user online status image,' or something similar. I remember it was a short thread and had been closed because it was "solved."

Much obliged It was just i was surprised by the lack of instructions. The post(s) that the original poster deleted would have provided more information on implementing it.

You're welcome, Craig. I wish there was some place to store all these great ideas in one place. Not every one, of course. But In searching for this I probably found a dozen or more similar requests going back away. I miss the old code database, it was a wonderful tool and easy to "search." Plus it was just laid out nicely and easy to scroll through. Before V5, we could code just about everything. Well, we can now too, of course, but it seems to be a whole lot more complicated and with more hoops to jump through. Sort of, "I know something you don't know and I bet you can't find it." Not that help isn't here for the asking, because it definitely is. But sometimes the quester doesn't know how to phrase their question and they also need step by step guidance, which is often not provided. Just throwing out a line of code won't help a lot of people here. A lot of folks are like me, scared they are going to mess up the template area and not know how to fix it without going to default, which would be awful if you had already added some things, with assistance. For anyone reading this, I highly recommend that you save all your tips and instructions in Notepad, with a date and name of who gave you help. This will help you recreate your site incase of a serious problem, but also allow you to share tidbits with friends. Just label your saves in Notepad with a descriptive title, like, "V5 code for changing Text To Image Mini-Profile."

I have an Admin Board on my main forum. I always post things there to keep...LOL Great way to store codes and such that may come in handy in the future.
