Hey all! I was wondering if it'd be possible to have a plug-in which get's the most popular thread of the week or day of a certain board (or all boards). I then want this thread to be displayed on my forum's homepage (summarized) and then when user's click on it, it'll go to the threads' page. If this isn't possible, then maybe just get the most recent thread instead (also to be displayed on the homepage). Hope anyone can help!

How does it determine which thread is "the most popular"?

For it to be classified as popular of the week you can select the thread with the most views out of the threads created after the start of the week...if that makes sense...

Aye there's the rub. there is no way to tally the number of views on a thread on a global basis. If the custom page widgets cant do it, there is no way a plugin can because no plugin would ever be able to poll the server for information like that.

Naw, bummer :/
What about, instead of getting the most popular thread; getting the most recent thread to be displayed on the homepage (as in with all the content shown but summarized). I know I can get the most recent thread via RSS, however it doesn't seem to have the content of the thread.

An entire thread content isnt globally accessible either, however I do believe there is a custom page widget that will let you display a recent thread. I dont know how much it will show though

As long as some content of the thread is displayed it should be fine, how can I achieve this without having to make a custom page and just placing the widget on the homepage via Layout Templates?

short of using a super forum key to save the contents of the first post whenever a thread is created so it can recreate it globally in the forum, there isnt a way. mainly because you cant just fetch whatever data you want all the time. SOME data is accessible because it is provided by PB on each page load, but a lot isnt.
