Could it be possible to have plugin for the 1st post automatically refresh every 60 seconds.
e.g. www.monchat.co.uk
This would reduce the number of views on threads by refreshing or pressing F5.

?adwoman? is correct. It would be against ProBoard's TOS refresh a page without a user action.

So if I create thread on speedwayupdates.proboards.com and edit the 1st post after every race it can't be automatically resfreshed? Most times we edit 1st post 15 times.

For a couple of reasons. Everytime a page is loaded it access the PB servers, causing undue load, and, the ads. Proboards gets most of it's income via the ads, and so the PB terms of service state that the ads must be viewable and accessible to the user. If the page is automatically refreshed you are taking that ad away without the user deciding not to click on it. Sorry.

I know this isn't exactly what you're asking for clint017, but have you considered using the recently updated threads sidebar? It updates whenever you post a thread or if anyone replies on it. So, it can give you updates every time you update a thread. It won't be a refresh, but it might be a clue to your members to look at the thread again. It also gives the option of being able to include bumped threads so every time you bump a thread, it'll show back up there. You can have it as a sidebar on your forum, or there is a way to move it to a container in the footer or header or anywhere else on your board. I find this really useful, and it might be a generic answer to your problem. This is what it looks like on my forum:
