No sense having excessive code to confuse your browser. Remove them and save them and see if it works without them and if it doesn't, then put them back.

As a note, @joecool111, you probably don't need this line:

#news{display:none;}

If you don't want your News Feed to display, simply go to Admin > Settings > News Feed and disable it.

i knew this

i've used it 1000's of times, just thought i'd use a code instead.

but thanks for the reminder, i'll go delete my code work and use you option instead which i all ready knew about
