SPOILER WARNING
This thread was made with the intention of discussing the latest film Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens so it is evident that there will be spoilers. Leave the thread immediately if you haven't seen the movie yet. If you end up becoming spoiled from this point on then it's your own fault.
What did everyone think of the latest installment into the Star Wars franchise? I find it interesting how across the galaxy known as the Internet many people are already saying the movie is bad. This is much like how The Phantom Menace premiered. Fans praised it as a great addition before they started tearing into it and saying it is the worst film of all time. It appears that such fans will never be pleased with any Star Wars movie and this includes Return of the Jedi. I guess the only thing to do is to upgrade to Star Track.

I thought it was a lot of fun and only had a couple of issues with it:
1. Storm trooper helmets filter out smoke but not toxins?!?!?! What kind of bad technology is that from a group who can build a planet destroyer?? 2. The announcement of the activation of the planet destroyer includes a scene straight out of the Third Reich, including a huge banner behind the orator and the raising of straightened arms by the troops in salute. Hated that.
Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I really hope we see more of Maz in the future installments. When they first introduced her, I thought she was going to be a stupid character, but I really ended up liking her a lot.
Sure, it rehashes a lot of earlier elements, but I didn't let that bother me and ruin the fun. I wish we had seen more of Luke, though.

Im not a huge Star Wars fan, been ages since I seen any of the old movies.. couple I have never watched. But I liked the movie just as a casual sci-fi fan.
I watched it as something that is kicking off the story again so it was bound to reuse some things to introduce new fans and get old characters back in.
Didn't have any issues with it really other then Kylo Ren didn't seem bad enough for a bad guy. Not sure he was meant to really bad though. They hint at some kind of redemption and conflict but still to me character just wasn't developed enough.

I really enjoyed it. Sure there some similarities, but it's a Star Wars movie! That's going to happen. I thought the story was good, even if it was a little predictable. I loved loved loved the special effects!! That blaster bolt just floating there all pulsating and stuff was awesome!! So were the lightsaber closeups!!! The footage of the Millennium Falcon flying so close to the ground was, well, neat! lol
Only thing I didn't like was the boring death of Han Solo. He should have gone out fighting, or something heroic. He's a fan favorite, and even had Harrison Ford as the first name in the credits............
That being said, I don't think Han is dead. Somehow or another he survived all that and will be in Episode 8. Thoughts?

I think he is dead though, I think I read somewhere Harrison Ford didn't want to do more films so got written out. Guess could be bluff though or he be back in more minor role

Hated that. Did you really not figure out that the First Order was suppose to be the Sci-Fi version of Nazi Germany? Even J.J. Abrams prior to the film being released said they were. They were probably more Nazi than the Galactic Empire was.
