Default banner will NOT go away

First, forgive me for this but just want to cover all bases. Are you sure you have that theme selected in your profile and are you sure you are changing it on the theme you want?

Since you didn't provide a link to your site, I can't say where you added the banner image but there are several ways:

1. Admin > Themes> Colors & Theme Creator> Scheme> and under the color bars there is an area for your banner image.
2. Admin > Themes> Advanced Styles & CSS> Visual Editor>Header (Top)>Forum Banner>Banner Image
3. Admin Home> Themes> Theme Manager> Theme Settings>Images and there is a place for your logo image.

The last few options of where it could be is if you added it via css or directly into your wrapper template or headers.

I think posted this somewhere else but not sure where but I am having problems with every theme I choose displaying the theme logo in the banner and I want my forum name only there. What am I doing wrong? I have created a new forum and I did not have this problem with my other forum so not sure why I am having this problem. Here is my new forum alabamahookup.proboards.com
