A new section listing the 20 latest posts on the front page

Hello!


This forum is massive so I hope I have posted this question in the right sub-forum and that it has not been answered before.

I have created a forum and I would like to have a new section above the Forum Information & Statistics section where a list of the 20 most recent posts are listed (on the front page). Like this forum has (it is not a ProBoards forum):

Thanks! I have already downloaded it, but a sidebar is unfortunately not what I am after. I will wait and hope then some other plugin comes along.

If you ask Todge in that plugin's support thread, they may be able to modify it for you to not be in a sidebar format (:

Note that the plugin already supports custom placement as described in the support thread

If you want the this code at the top [or bottom] of you forum, add this into your Global Header,

<div id="recent_threads_here"></div>

then put recent_threads_here into the plugin where it asks for the Container ID.

Got it to work. Almost at least. Only posts by mods are displayed. I have the settings below:

Have there been posts made by non-staff since the plugin was installed a couple of hours ago? Todge would know more how his plugin works than I but I suspect it harvests posts as they are made not posts going back before installation unless it also harvests them from the last post column on main page.

Chris is correct, the plugin will only list posts that are made AFTER the plugin was installed and activated.

I decided finally not to use the plugin, did not get it to work properly. But thanks for your help anyways.

I have another question, is it possible to create a custom page where it is listed what threads online members (and maybe guests) are currently viewing?

Like:

Thread name | Person viewing

The best you'll get is a report on which users and how many guests are viewing any given BOARD on the site since it has been deemed an invasion of privacy to show anything more granular than that. I realize some companies will take the NSA approach and consider any and everything fair game but Proboards has consistently drawn a line when it comes to keeping a balance between user privacy and "need to know" information necessary for the operations of the forum.

There could be several reason some are missing.

The most likely being that posts are made from a mobile device. As plugins do not work while using the mobile app, any posts made using that will not be included in the list.

Also, the code tries to sort the posts, so, if several posts are made to the same thread, only the latest one will be included in the Recent list, for example, in the page you have linked to, 'Listen to the Air (Mike Love and Dean Torrence)' has been posted in 3 times, but will only be listed once, the latest being it.

So, taking the first page of your Recently Updated Threads....

I can disable the function that removes duplicated threads, that would then list ALL posts, regardless, that would be the easiest way of doing it, but there is simply no way of collecting posts made via a mobile device at this time, so those will still be missing from the final list.

Could I also suggest that you add this to the CSS Styling in your plugins settings..

That should make your Recent Threads List scrollable.
