What do you think about forum post exchanges?
For example - I write on your forum and you write in my. I think that this is one of the essential prerequisites for the survival of each forum. Many people don't realize it and just ignore this fact.
I am interested in your opinion about it.
I have always supported and worked such things. If you want to do it, please contact me by private message.

I find the idea disingenuous. Communities are built on authenticity, and I'm not a fan of post exchanges or affiliating for the same reasons- the people posting aren't really invested in your community, and it will show in the quality (or lack threreof) of the content

Honestly I feel like the way certain forums advertise are outdated and old. I feel like if you just post on other forums it's a lazy mans way. If you honestly want it to succed you should tell people about it face to face.

I agree with what the two people above me said. A forum needs to be able to stand on its own without the use of cheap tricks. On top of that I have my doubts as to how successful this technique really is. You crank up the post count, but it doesn't really give you a lot of meaningful conversation on your site and I think potential new members are going to notice that one way or another.

Forumero, this is a great topic, and I've moved it here to the Managing Your Forum board so other Admins can benefit from the discussion.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough. I didn't think about the so-called "paid posting" (that you have to return/back a certain number of posts each other), but that if someone has a forum and participate with you, so that you at least a little participate with him. Does this mean that we all should be a members of only one forum on the Internet? Especially if we have our own forum? I think that this is not good practice in virtual communication. However, everything depends on the quality of forum members and their capacities. No problem.

Ohh, I see what you mean now. I misunderstood, sorry. I indeed assumed you meant more of an uninvolved kind of post-for-post system, where you post just to be posting.
Now I agree, however. I'm usually up for joining a friend's new forum, and likewise, so I'd say that can work, yes. In the end they do need to be really interested in the subject matter, though, otherwise you'll be back at the part about it being disingenuous at worst or they might not be able to keep up the participating at best, I feel.

That's nice. I think that each forum has some interesting topic. For example, I like to write and participate in the forums of the English-speaking world. The reason is simple. Something like that maintains and increases my knowledge, although I use and speak English for many years. Forums as a form of internet communication are really useful for such things. I'm very glad when I can exchange views with people from distant countries, almost instantly. And it is also one more reason to praise Proboards as a network that has stable servers and almost never betrayed my efforts.

I have done the post exchange thing many times, it don't work. You may get lucky and manage to keep someone, but that's rare, they just do their deal with you and disappear again.

I agree with nariadreaming .
I think members should join a forum because it truly interests them and not in hopes of "you join mine and I'll join yours".
There are a lot of forums where one sentence posts and game boards dominate but not much of anything else is contributed.
Of course, that may be to some admins'/members' liking, and be exactly what they're looking for.
But for more in depth discussion, participation and longevity, more avenues should be explored.
And if one does decide to engage in post exchanges, they should be committed to each and every member's board who has chosen to join theirs.
Otherwise, it becomes a very lopsided affair where one admin's forum is flourishing while that admin is contributing little to nothing on the exchange member's boards.
