Affiliate Banner Size!

Im trying to make a banner !
and have seen some spiffy ones for sure,
but I have also seen ones where you cannot read the words,
or make out what they are or what they say.
I want to try an avoid this ....

So my question: What is a good size for a affiliate banner!
any other tips/advice to avoid this is appreciated as well .

1. 88x31 is the most common size

2. Don't try to cram a lot of words into this area

- 2a. The initials of your site or an abbreviated site name can work
- 2b. You don't have to put any text. In fact, don't, if its too hard to read

3. Look at other affiliate images for inspiration
