pebbles I want to emphasize that you did really, really well. The camera picture I found isn't perfect but the audience would know exactly why it's there: because it's one of the last stages of a prototype to actually get the stuff into the final case that it would be in. So all of these hobbyists who have a dream of manufacturing a product, that would be the last step for them. That's why they would (and do) visit my forum.

The technology that the forum is about is on the way toward toward that, from idea all the way toward the finished product, using the two types of boards: the one you already have three pictures of (arduino) and the one I asked to add (raspberry, based on the picture I found). Hope this is enough direction and information! You did absolutely fantastic.

You're amazingly understanding, you helped me go about choosing photos to include, and told me about how to give specific feedback, which you incorporated and made really awesome! I really appreciate your creating this banner for me

I also have to apologize again that I didn't notice your update.  To explain, I'm a very new proboards admin and after I checked the thread, I kept scrolling to the bottom to see if you replied - but there is a Page 2 that I didn't see, since the bottom doesn't show page numbers of threads, only the top does. Your reply had gone over to page 2 which I didn't see. (You also didn't tag me which I guess would have notified me. I don't see a way to sign up for threads.) So I'm particularly sorry about the week that I didn't notice your updated image!! Sorry, Pebbles !

also, it seems the banner is repeating itself , you might want to turn that off? or make the wrapper width the same as the banner so it doesn't repeat like that.... i dont know maybe you like it but i think it kinda looks silly haha

Pebbles  , I definitely noticed the effect that you're talking about, that's why I asked people about it.  I showed it to people who were good visually and they were okay with it...

Isn't it possible to somehow fix the wrapping by making a small change to the banner sot hat the left and right-side line up?

I mean like this - what I mean by "playing with": link

Also if the left side of the camera is faded then the wrap won't be bad - like this (maybe fade the component on the right side too to make the wrap natural.)

That will make the wrap very natural.  However, I didn't want to ask you to do things like this, unless my users noticed and complained, and I haven't had any complaints about it!!!  

So of course I am happy if you would do it.

I also think you're an amazing designer, so if you think the whole thing looks kind of silly and have any ideas, you should make them!  For example, I think the number of diamonds in the "Curious.boards.net" text is too much visually, there should just be either 2 or 3 total since there are only two dots in "curious.boards.net" which is the URL.

I think it would look better like this - link with a limited number of diamonds, and they're all diamonds.  (Right now the dot before the net is a square, not a diamond.)  Remember, I want people to remember the URL: "curious.boards.net"

But it doesn't matter, I left that up to how you did it!

If you have more polished version you want to give, incorporate any of the above changes --
Or -- if you have any additional ideas I would be very happy to look at what you thought would it "something special" (since you write "although it is really nothing special to be honest").

I am happy with the banner that you've given me .  If you want to make any of the above changes that I mention, I would also be okay with it.

If you want to give me a version of how you would make it 'something special' I would also be thrilled to look at it!

it makes your forum smaller obviously but at least the banner won't repeat like it does now

the width of the banner itself is 920 so yeah

if you dont want it to get smaller it is going to look strange with a banner like that in the center and with nothing else on the side
but thats up to you

Pebbles - could you talk more what you think is wrong with wrapping the banner?  If possible, I would like to continue to wrap the banner.  This is because some people have extremely wide screens.  In addition, I've gotten feedback that it looks good.  (Of course, I might work on the white text overlay outline in CSS or something but that's not part of the banner.)

I would like to keep the wrapping behavior! I also love the way it looks (its width) and don't want to make my forum narrower.

Wrapping-around behavior is possible!!!

Notice the way in which the default banner wraps:

This is what the banner really looks like:



The banner is narrower than you see by default - it wraps around.  This can happen because the right-side and the left side match up.



So if the left side and the right side are in the correct location, there can be a wrapping effect.

You would have to change how the left side looks, so that it seems to wrap:




You see how edited the area just at the left of the camera?  Before, the wrap is obvious.  After, it is not obvious.
The left side of the camera should also fade in.





This is the complete area of the background that you would edit.

Then, the wrap looks natural.

I like the size of the banner and I don't want to make it not wrap.  We have to figure out how to make it wrap naturally.

Would this be possible?  I feel like, as you asked me before, I made the directions very explicit.

Finally, I would prefer the logo to look like this:



There are 2 changes:
1)  Because I want people to remember the url which is curious.boards.net

--> I wanted to get rid of extra dots.
--> This seems cleaner to me.
--> There is not a mix of diamonds and periods.

It makes it easy to Remember: "curious.boards.net" (that this is what they type into the browser to get to my home page) as well as remembering my name "Curious Boards."

So, in summary

On the current version of the logo (which I'm happy with already) if you want to make a change I would like:

1) The wrapping to be more natural, by manually moving the left part of the background around.  This is a manual editing job of the background image.  If you send me the background image I can try doing it in paint, I might succeed.  I don't have a copy of just the background layer, and I only use Paint, not photoshop. But if you include a copy of just the background layer I can fix it the way I want, so it wraps naturally.


2) The wrapping to be more natural, by fading in the camera and maybe fading out the right side the same way.  I can try making these fade effects but I think you can do it, because you did it on the other images!  I would need a copy of the images if you wanted me to do the fade.

With the above two changes, the wrapping should be very natural.

3) It could be better to change the text "curious.boards.net" to look like the above with fewer diamonds and only diamonds, not a mix of diamonds and period.  In the way that I showed.

These are very explicit directions if you want to improve the banner and make it seem more natural.  I hope they wouldn't take too long.

However, if you don't want to do it, I am already happy with what you have done.  

I gave you the above feedback because you told me before to be very, very explicit.  I hope you understand what small changes would slightly improve the banner, if you still wanted to make any other small change.

Nobody has complained, but I got very positive notices, people like it.  So I really owe you a very big thanks!!!!  You've improved my forum a lot.  It's not very important for me whether you want to make the above changes. Of course, I would be happy if you do or have more thoughts for me.

I also think you're a great designer, and afterward if you have other ideas for a different type of banner that is truly great, it could be an interesting next version    For now I'm very happy and it's up to you if you can make the above small changes.

And this is what it looks like as before:

How would you rate the two looks?   I would rate the first one as 7/10 because the text is a bit blurry and big, but the second one, the way I just had it, is like an 9/10.   I just think it looks awesome.

It also has this repetitive idea of a cycle.  I don't know i just really like it.  Also, my users like it too.
