Back in he early days of photobucket infrequently ran into bandwidth issues. It's my understanding that their bandwidth restrictions have since been relaxed and many high traffic sites no longer experience many, if any, issues hosting with them as far as bandwidth caps. My only issue then would be the massive lengths of the URL.
Otherwise, I've honestly just been using the PB upload for theme images (especially as it makes it so that I get variables in my templates for said images), and tinypic for avatar and affiliate images (but tinypic has an issue sometimes with reusing urls / have recently added a lot of invasive and pop under ads to their service).
Anything else I pretty much just host on my own server lol :x
Just curious what do you mean by 'variables in templates for said images' If you upload an image to your theme via ProBoards, a variable with the image name will be created in your layout templates under "images"

Kami , if you don't allow Photobucket to add those crazy "security" letters into the link, they aren't very long.
Then it depends on what the account holder names their folders and their photos. Short names/folders = short url addresses.
And their bandwidth for free accounts has indeed increased. All of our forums images for our many themes are in my account, as well, as thousands of my photographs, and I'm still only at 50% capacity.

That way you can still access the images in template variables

Indeed! Handy though if you want to host a particularly Brobdingnagian image, like a fullscreen wallpaper or some such, and you're short on library space.

Thanks! That just makes skin designing even easier (and gives me more reasons to love using proboards to host board images)
