There is currently a shoutbox sound plugin by Pebbles in the plugins library. It does not work. Senders here a beep but receivers here nothing. Could somebody please write a new shoutbox sound plugin that works? Thank you so much.

My initial inspection of the source code suggests it should sound-off for both incoming and outgoing shouts since it listens for the "update" ajax request, would you happen to have a forum where it is installed and behaving as you describe (that would be the quickest way to get to the bottom of this)? If something has changed since the release of that plugin then tracing the code to see what is happening versus what is expected to happen would be the quickest route.
You are on windows 7 running IE11 (3bit) when testing this correct? Have you tested it in other browsers/OS combinations to confirm that it isn't something specific to your setup?

Hi Chris. This is my forum: jackieevanchofans.proboards.com/ I am using slim browser which uses the IE engine. I have tested this with several members who use chrome and firefox. When they shout they hear the bell. When I shout they hear nothing. When I shout I hear the bell. When they shout I hear nothing. I tried an earlier version of the plugin and it workd intermittently. Sometimes yes and more often no. Any help you can give is very appreciated.

So basically the common thread here is the person using the slim browser does not hear incoming shouts or the recipient doesn't hear their shouts? Your Firefox to Firefox or firefox to chrome users can hear each other?

I don't know if chrome to firefox works or not. I don't like either browser so I don't use them.

Have you asked your firefox/chrome members who were helping you test your slim browser?

You mean did they use slim browser? No they didn't. It was the same for both sides. When we post we hear the beep whatever browser we are using. When someone else shouts we hear nothing whatever browser we are using. I tried an earlier version of the plugin. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
Someone else told Pebbles about this problem on July 7, 2015. Pebbles never responded. Pebbles hasn't posted anything on her/his support thread in almost two years.

So if I understand correctly, you're saying someone on firefox who send a shout to someone on chrome or another firefox or vice versa has the same problem as you with not hearing a sound for the incoming shout, thus ruling out the one-off slim browser as the cause?
Another obvious question, is this due to the shoutbox going into sleep mode? You are aware that that the shoutbox turns itself off after a certain period of inactivity so is this a case where the new shout shows up only after refreshing or navigating to another page which would not be under the control of a plugin since that is built into the shoutbox itself?

I didn't know shoutbox has a sleep mode. All I know is we shout for awhile to test the sound and it doesn't work.

I'm seeing two shoutbox sound plugins in on your forum, could you disable (uncheck) one?

I switched to version 2.0.1 of Pebbles plugin and it seems to be working. Version 2.0.2 does not work. When I installed 2.0.1 I forgot to delete 2.0.2. I deleted it and a member using firefox and I tested the sound. It worked coming and going for both of us. I've tried half a dozen versions of pebbles plugin and 2.0.1 is the only one that works. I don't know if it works all the time, but it worked this morning.

I take it back. 2.0.1 is intermittent. It works sometimes and sometimes not.

I have not been able to duplicate this on my own so am still unable to come up with an explanation so my next guess is this might be a problem on dropbox end. I'll PM you a special build of the plugin that comes preconfigured with sound files hosted in the plugin itself via the image tab, disable the other plugin and import this one then test using the built-in sound files Edit:After further investigation it appears this is due to confusion over how the shoutbox works
