Not sure if you guys have heard but there are tons of upcoming Top Level Domains pending release. One of which is .forum www.name.com/domains/forumWill you be changing it? How do you feel this is going to change the forum industry/community? I like it, I think it's great. Especially for those who can snag premium names such as: books.forum or writers.forum What are your thoughts?

Im indifferent. Like all TLDs I think it really depends on what your preference as well as your target audience is. I wouldn't use them because my forums tend to be more than just forums, but I can see how they'd be beneficial to others.
I don't particularly think it will change too much. I mean, there will be of course a shift in more forums opting for a .forums domain but ultimately I think it'll just become yet another option, if that makes sense.

At first, I thought that the .com is the end-all, be-all. As time went on and the expansion of the internet and all the various networks and media, I really love the idea of a specific TLD.
When new movies and blockbusters are released, their PR can take advantage of the .movie TLD, eg. Superman.Movie
I'm a big fan of all of the new TLDs that now exist and coming.

I don't disagree. Specific TLDs are really beneficial for those they need to be beneficial for. (I mean I am also waiting for a specific TLD to be released)
My standpoint is not that it's useless, it's that a) I am personally indifferent because it is not something that I would use, and b) that while there would be some changes to forum domain usage I don't think it's going to be such a massive game changer that's gonna shake up forums as we know it. it will also talk time to build up trust in a new TLD so it's at least going to take some time before anyone can determine if it's going to be a big success.

To go off the trust part you mentioned, that's becoming an interesting thing for domains now. It used to be that sites with the .org domain were sites you could definitely trust, but recently there have been sites like constitution.org that claim to be the 'go to' for such and such a topic, basically claiming superiority, but they really aren't properly vetted. And yet, since they have that .org domain, they're still taken to be the leading authority or whatever. But, still, I agree with you that these new domains will take some time for people to get used to. Either way, people need to make sure they're also doing their research. Of course, when it comes to forums, it's different. I don't think anyone is claiming to be an expert or the leading authority when they create a forum. I could have .org for my forum, but that doesn't mean it's really anything as special as the domain implies. I hope this made at least some sense...
