Does this go in here? I don't know anything about layouts, but what I want is pretty simple. Just like this forum has a grey background, then a white one over it, right under the actual boards. How can I do this?

Not really the right board because GD is more for the graphics end of things.
But to answer this was most likely accomplished (or rather this is the easiest way of doing it) by specifying a background colour for the forum, then wrapping the content of the forum in a div and using CSS to target the div to add another background colour.

Could someone move it to the right place then, please? Also, can I get a little more specific detail? I see a bunch of different themes have this as well Straight from the theme library.

Different themes will accomplish this in different manners, which is why I avoided giving a specific method. The simplest way is to add this to your CSS: #wrapper { background-color: #000000; }Replace #00000 with the hex colour of the background you want. (CSS in action: kamitest4.proboards.com/ )

I haven't changed anything but the colors and images on my forum, so it worked pretty good. But how do I get it to extend a little on the sides? It just stays to my forum width.

add
padding-left: 50px; padding-right: 50px;
to the above CSS, changing 50 to what you feel is an appropriate size.

Doesn't seem to do anything I do not see that appended to the #wrapper css -- did you remove it?

Again, append to the previous CSS. Change '#000000' to whatever colour you want it to be. You can also change '1px' to something larger, and 'solid' to dashed, dotted, etc depending on what you want to achieve.

Actually--- Again... Is it possible to not have it stretch all the way from top to bottom? I'd prefer it if it didn't go all the way. Just like the sides, could I chose how far the top and bottom goes? I really just don't want it to go over my banner or footer.

Yes, but not by appending it to the wrapper css. This would require you add divs change the CSS and I'm not really in a position to help out with that right now due to working on another theme.
I would recommend you posting in the theme board (:
