Lynx has authored a new version of this plugin utilizing the base code of the original and has continued to improve its functionality. The new version, Scavenger Hunt v0.2.0 is available in the library and has a new corresponding support thread.

Hi guys! I'm creating this thread a little under a week before Halloween night, but you might see this later on. Right now we're running this plugin here on Support and allowing the community to collect candies using it, but you can use it to stage an easter egg hunt or really any holiday flavored find-and-click style game. 

The premise is simple. The plugin has a chance to show an item (like a piece of candy) somewhere on the page. If you find it and click it, it goes into your bag! Collect em all!

Dev notes:

This is the beta edition of the plugin, because I'm anticipating bugs and the code, documentation and settings options aren't quite as complete as I'd like.

With that said, the plugin is at the point where you can use it! When you install it, the default settings will be set up for the Halloween game we're playing on support at the time of this posting, so you'll be finding candies and putting them into your bag. That's not to say you couldn't easily switch it to be easter eggs that you put into your basket, assuming you had the art. You can customize all the images and text used to be able to flavor it any way you'd like.

Let me know if you run into any bugs, as always!

Note: As far as I know, we managed a temporary fix for the bug that was creating plugin permission errors. Apparently it's a bug with the plugin system -- the team has it in their bug tracker now. Let me know if it's still happening!

I put the plug in on my test forum and this is the message I get when I have accepted. I didn't change the plug in at all.

I am getting the same error message whenever I click on the candy on my forum, as well.

Also, how do I get the bags to show up on my themes with horizontal profiles?

David Clark - love the plugin so far, if you have time/desire to develop further/etc could I ask for a few additional feature requests?

I was mainly thinking of suggesting a way of having one default theme and then the option to have or holiday additions that show things like say between the dates of Easter the number of easter eggs collected as well as the number of default items?

New version for y'all in the OP -- I shouldn't code plugins with a cold, because I forget to make sure it works with 0'd out key values.

Try it out!

Edit: I don't hate that idea, Boy_Wonder! My plans for this plugin are a bit more short-term than that, but that could definitely be the roadmap, if I see mostly just holiday usage (which, let's be honest, will be the case).

I'm just approaching from the 'RP' perspective I admit hence that suggestion as then I could have it set up so I can have the default one provides rp stuff, the holiday additions would also let me give holiday gifts

New version appears to be working fine for me, so far.

Still don't have the bags showing in the Horizontal Profile themes, though.

Okay, I think I figured out how to add the bag and other images to my layout template and got them to show in the Horizontal Profiles. However, the number count isn't showing.

I got as far as <span class="prizeNum"></span> but don't know how to get it to add each person's count.

Yay! I'm so happy to see this is up and running. I'ma ble to collect candies just fine, however, because of my custom mini profile, I'm unable to make it viewable on the mini profile. Able to help me out? What span/div class do i need to add to my mini profile template to make it viewable?

I'm not sure if this plugin is for use of a forum with the default theme settings
I'm wondering if there any chance adding a <div> tag
we could use to add to mini profiles template
for those of us who have made changes to mini profile - as to show the bag and candy count

I did try it my forum but as I'm using a theme chalkboard - the bag and candy count would not show
in the mini profile

Not sure if this is the thread to post this on....

I added it to my test site to see how it goes. There was no problem. It did take a while to find that 5th one, but I finally did it. All is well there.

However, every single time I tried to set it up on my main site, to play with friends, it won't finish loading. It's weird. Not sure, but could I possibly have another plugin installed on there that interferes with this one loading?

I'm going to keep trying though. I'll post back in here if I get the problem figured out, when I do.

I can't get it on my forum? I clicked the link but my tablet is unable to open that file. I searched in the library but wasnt there either.

Can I get it on mobile anytime soon?
