Hover text over image + board list

After a very enlightening exchange with Kami, this is what I need.



> a board remodel so that two boards show side by side
> Board name is on top / Subboards on the bottom (or hidden if there are no subboards)
> Description is an image with some information on hover
> information to be displayed on hover:
            - Number of Posts on board
            - Number of Threads on board
            - Latest post (thread name)
            - Author of latest post

If possible, I would also like that in case there is an odd number of boards, that it spans the whole space not just half.

I hope this is clear, otherwise just let me know what else you may need!

For whatever it's worth I don't recommend hovers for important info like that. Hovers don't work on mobile or touch screen devices, and with v6 forums won't have separate coding for mobile vs desktop devices.

Your original request was also possible. Both it, and the new idea, suffer from the fact that you want an on-hover effect: i.e. you want hovering over a specific area to display information. The reason I'm advising against it is because mobile browsing -- phones, tablets, pretty much anything that has a touch screen -- will not display the information simply because hover effects do not work on those types of devices, only on devices that can use a mouse.

A template modder would be able to do either of these, I'm just suggesting you reconsider seeing as v6 mobile view will share the same coding as desktop view and if you create a desktop view reliant on hover effects, your mobile view will simply hide all that information.

Okay, but just to make sure I get it, the information that would not show on mobile would be the one on hover, right?

Correct. If you had a board with the information

Board Name
Description


And on hover it would reveal the number of posts, last post, etc

All mobile viewers would see would be Board Name & Description.

Yes, they are doable.

As far as adviseable, I'm not sure where my point is losing momentum. You are still using on hover effects, so no I would not advise it. But you seem set on displaying information when you hover, so it is really up to you!

I do get what you mean, and I have been suggesting something without the hover to the people I'm working with, but they really want the hover (hence the changes).

Thats fair! Yes all of these should be doable, so if the mobile hover issue is not a deal breaker you can still request the first one if that's what your group would prefer!

I spoke to them and we did get to a compromise, something everyone likes.
