Learning Perl?

I have a book already but I am much better at hands-on learning. codeacademy doesn't have a section for perl, and I've tried downloading a program to let me fiddle with it on my computer but I keep receiving an 'insufficient privileges' error even though I'm the root admin ;x, so I was wondering if anyone had any resources for learning perl hands-on.

I'm still very much a beginner with learning perl but it doesn't need to be totally noob friendly ;x I mean don't get me wrong the book is helpful for learning syntax but without being able to make (or break) code I have difficulty retaining info.

I use XAMPP for my development. That supports perl.

I'm not necessarily saying learning Perl is a poor use of time, but Perl is one of the lesser popular programming languages used today. If you're looking to round yourself out more for better employability, I would maybe go for another language like Python or C. If you're just wanting to learn Perl for the fun of it, kudos to you!

I know this! I am a CompSci major, and I am learning C as well as C++, and I will likely learn Ruby as well I would still like to learn Perl. Thank you though!

Any good sources for Ruby? The game engine I use to make my 2D games takes Ruby (RSS3), and I'd love to be able to add my own stuff to the game.
