Hoping someone can make a picture slider that any member of the forum can contribute to.

Must include field for members that they can insert a URL to an image hosted elsewhere.

I don't care if it does a marquee on loop or if it's just a timed flip through photos (which I know the timed one is a lot easier to code).  Must have max-height and min-height,  min-width and max-width so images don't appear with weird blank space or extremely huge or small.

As I said, this must use a super key or two just because I know it'll need to store the entries and I know it needs to be something all members can input into.  Need to exclude guests and would prefer to have the ability to exclude groups and/or individual members if I want to.

Needs to be put on a divide, aka have a unique ID that can be used to place it wherever I want on the forum (I prefer for it to be on the homepage).

You're correct, it will need a super forum key, and there in lies the problem... Storage...

A Super Forum Key can hold 32kb, which, depending on the size of the URLs your members add, may not be a big as it seems. Using 2 would be better (obviously), so it comes down to you. Would you prefer 1 or 2 keys to be used?

Honestly I have no shortage of plugin key space.  I have like 8 super keys on my forum that aren't used, so use 2 if you think it's necessary and are willing to take this up for me.

The problem with a plugin like this is that, no matter how many keys are used, if your members keep adding images, eventually you will run out of space. So when that happens you will either have to delete some images to make room for more, or simply not allow any more images to be added.

Saying that, I have an idea that may allow you more room.. Leave it with me to do a little experimenting, and see what I can come up with.

Thank you so much Todge.  I think that's a great idea, and I was aware of the space issue when it gets full before I asked for the plugin.  So, don't worry.  I've taken that into account.

Just a heads-up on the progress of this plugin.

I finished a working copy, but on testing found a bug. It seems that using CSS to create a marquee effect is severely flawed, as the scrolling will reset after the set time has elapsed, meaning it will only show the first few images before starting over. The only way I can get over that is to change the width of the scrolling cell, which then messes with the format of the containing cell and screws up the timing of the marquee. This can be overcome somewhat with a jquery plugin, which works out the cell width and recalculates speed etc, which works great with text, but struggles somewhat with images, as images need to load before the dimensions are available to the browser.

So....

I am starting again, but this time it will be an image fader.

Tiffy-Bean, @joecool111, can you please try this...

Forum Photo Fader

You need to add a cell with an ID of 'forum_photo_fader' to your template where you'd like the fader to be.

And, although you have the option for a scroller in the plugin, be aware that only the fader is currently functional. A scroller will be added at a later date, or if I can't get it to work properly, the option will be removed.
