background-size: cover; is working correctly when it "insanely stretche(s)" it. That's what you're telling the CSS to do, is to stretch the background to fit the viewer's resolution. If the image is a small image, then it will look distorted and pixelated. I don't recommend using this for a background image any smaller than 1920 x 1080 for best results (and note: this will still appear blurred on any resolution larger than that, eg a 4k resolution, but I believe those users are currently in the minority). The solution in this case would be either a) use a larger image or b) get an image more suitable to repeating, such as from subtlepatterns.com
