hi there!
i'm looking for a plugin that would allow me to create a thread but set it up to post at a later date than when i create it. for example, at our forum we have a monthly schedule of events and a new one goes up each month on the 1st. if i know i am not going to be available on the 1st i would love to be able to set up the thread and schedule it to post on the 1st.
another function this could have would be to make the thread recur monthly, weekly, daily, or one-time.
would something like this be possible?
thank you so much!

I'm afraid that this is not possible.
It would require someone to be online for the code to work, so it couldn't be done if there was no-one around.. It would require pages to be loaded in the background and and post without a member-action, both TOS violations. And if that wasn't enough, even without those restrictions, the post would be seen to have been authored by the member online at the time of posting rather than yourself.
Sorry.

This is not necessarily possible through post but msg has general notices/on this date that can set times and queue text to be displayed on certain days. And perhaps minor variations of that Although todge could totally have an encrypted post that would be unreadable until a selected day via a small mod to post whispers probably.

A post could be hidden until a certain date, as P̌̓aͧś̀t̀u͒le͆o͂2̀3̃̓ mentioned above, but that wouldn't stop others from posting after it. So, the hidden post would appear on the set date, but could be a page or more from the end of the thread, and my never be seen..

But if you had a little placeholder saying this thread will be available at such and such time I doubt many users would post on it

You'd also get the 'New' post notification on the thread list, but not see the post when you go look for it, but then not get the 'New' notification when the post becomes available, plus the error of the admin being the last poster while they apparently aren't and the fact that the thread could slip of the first page of the thread list, essentially hiding it from anyone unaware that it exists, though that could be stopped by stickying the thread.

As P̌̓aͧś̀t̀u͒le͆o͂2̀3̃̓ stated, both the On This Date and General Notices plugins allow to have content shown on specific dates. However, these are placed in a container at a location you specify. You can also use just the HTML in the Event Description boxes if you wanted to add it into Brian's Sidebar Redux, for example. The General Notices, if using the content box, allows for customized title bar titles as well (On This Date does not have that feature). As a note, I am currently working on an update (currently in the bug-fix stage) for General Notices that will allow for date ranges. The version in the library works - it just doesn't allow for date ranges (one date per autoform). Once I can get the new version bug-free and submitted to the library, I'll post in its support thread. If you're not interested in either of those plugins, feel free to just disregard this post.

Honestly, my recommendation is to make a board specific for hidden content. Write your posts up on that hidden board where no one can see it, and then have it set up for On This Date, for the link to the post to show up on that date. That way it's a normal board that people can reply to. You can hide the navigation bar on that board in specific which would prevent members from going back and browsing through other posts you may have hidden that aren't supposed to be seen yet. Of course, they could just, if you have a more clever member, delete parts of the URL to get back, but deleting the Nav bar would discourage that. That way it operates like a normal posts where new replies are done in order. I dunno...just a suggestion. There were a lot of great suggestions on this.

Just as a note - the On This Date plugin creates its own container and not part of any posting page. However, thinking about it, the <div> that gets placed to where you want the container to show could be put in the board's header for a specific board (or boards). I haven't thought about it being used like that, so not sure how well it could work - but there is a distinct possibility that it could work like that. It still has nothing to do with posts themselves, though. Maybe I could add a Use in Board option (leave blank to use in all boards) if it's to be used in just certain board(s). That will depend on whether or not this plugin gets an update though.
