I want to use a business email from Gmail but in order to prove that I own my forum, I have to insert a code into the HTML, but I do not know where to find it. It tells me to put it between the <head> and <body> sections.

admin > themes > structure > layout templates > forum wrapper
You should be able to find the end </head> tag and beginning <body> tag fairly quickly. However, can you post the content it's asking of you? I seem to recall there are some limitations with verifying with Google on ProBoards and you may need to find an alternate method.

Is that something I should share? Seems like a important thing.

Is that something I should share? Seems like a important thing. you're welcome to censor out any important or personally identifying information, but you're not obligated to post it. If there is an instructional page from google that would explain what they're asking, I could try to assist that way as well.

I'm just curious if you need to leave the code in the header. If so then anyone can view it, Like analytics.

Assuming you are using the meta tag method the verification token is generated by Google for the specific purpose of seeing it appear on the domain that you are wishing to be associated with your account, if it appears on any other domain or tries to be used by another account then it is useless since it was not generated for verification on any other domain or for any other account. It is also not personally identifiable data so I see no need to hide it and it will be periodically checked by Google to confirm your continued ownership of that domain so should remain in place. Keep in mind that when Google visits your site it will be viewing it just as a guest would so that meta tag should be placed in whatever theme you have designated as the 'default' in the event you have multiple themes. Also note that if the forum is closed to guests ("must login" or "maintenance mode") then Google will not be able to see the home page in order to verify. You can verify your ownership of a site by adding a <meta> tag to the HTML of a specified page. We'll verify that the meta tag exists in the correct location. If we can't find the tag, we'll give you information about the error we encountered. This tag is tied to a specific user. To verify ownership with an HTML tag, choose the HTML tag method on the verification details page for your site and follow the instructions shown. Errors: The following specific verification errors can occur, in addition to the common verification problems: - We couldn't find the verification meta tag on your home page. The verification meta tag must be within the <HEAD> section of the page.
If you see this error, check the following: - Your meta tag is incorrect.
We found the verification meta tag, but the contents were incorrect. To avoid errors, copy and paste the meta tag provided on the Verification page of Search Console. - Your home page returns a HTTP status code of XXX instead of 200(OK).
If your server returns a HTTP status code other than 200(OK) for your home page, Search Console will not be able to verify that it contains the expected meta tag. More information about HTTP status codes.
