Character creator

Something I would like to do for our RP forum would be a character creator (something like this) which players can use to make their own characters instead of having to take the images of pre-existing ones from other series. One of our artists would do all the pieces that can be switched out but we would still need someone who can do the technical stuff and piece everything together and make it work. Like restricting some pieces for certain choices (every race has a few things others don't have), inserting a colour palette and the like. It would be in 2D/drawn and just beginning from the shoulders and going upwards, so no body and full clothes (only the pieces you can see on the shoulders) which should make it a lot easier.
If more informations are needed I will supply them, of course. And if you want to stay with us afterwards and want to know more about the RP then I will be glad to tell you more about that, too.
The creator would probably be something outside the forum, like, you could link it in the forum to go there. Which means you could use something like Unity or anything else to make it.

This wouldn't be achievable by templates, but it looks like (essentially) that you want a character creator as if in a video game, or a class-specific doll creator?

If so, I think this exceeds the scope of what you'll find people willing to do on this forum. I'd give it a go in the Plugin Request Board board to see if someone is willing to but quite honestly I wouldn't hold my breath. I had a similar idea as well but the time it would take would be immense so I opted to do it manually (have pre-set pieces, and an order form for users to fill out, and just manually alter any colours / swap models).

Yeah, like in a video game. And I kinda feared this would be the case. Maybe I should ask someone on the Unity forum but I'm not sure I will find someone there as well, so I guess I either have to do it myself (somehow learn it with a package you can buy in Unity) or find an artist who could do requests to make characters for players but without putting too much time into them (just one picture). We kinda have to do this because we use races you won't find characters for. The price of using original ones.

Oh no, I totally feel you on that. Good luck, and tbh if you find someone that can do the technical aspect hmu because I'd take that over manually doing it any day (my co admin and I are both illustrators so we've designed the pieces for our "character creator" but we have to make any adjustments manually)

Well, you would have to do it in Unity and I guess you could upload it to another site, like you would do with an Unity webgame. If that's what you meant.
If you get it to work, maybe you could explain some things - I am not good with this technical stuff.

Well yes, do understand that I have to do this in Unity. I was simply wondering aloud if I had the hosting resources to upload this myself to ensure no down time in the event of high use.

If I can get it to work I'd be more than happy to assist, but this would be a brand new venture for me as well.
