"Responsive" web design

I've only recently learned this term and spent a good portion of last night getting my photography website to conform to this new way of thinking. However, after doing all that, I then learned that some older browsers won't be able to handle it. *flail* What's a webmaster to do???

Thanks for the link, it gave me some nice options.

I kept my site pretty simple, without a lot of bells and whistles. I really should get one of the old computers out of the garage to test it with. I had one of my friends test it with her cellphone, since I don't own one, and she said it worked great on it, so at least that's good, LOL.

A larger and larger % of people use phone and tablets these days. I think it was about 50% for a site I manage at last look. That should be a first priority, as much as it pains me to say.

I wouldn't worry too much about browsers that can't handle it. Those are at least 5 or more years out of date, probably closer to 10. Unless you have a significant amount of revenue tied to it, it's not worth the hassle to spend a lot of your effort to accommodate 1- 3% of browsers. Those browsers shouldn't be used any more anyway due to security reasons.

Since responsive web design is not new anymore, there might be others who would welcome a new thread to discuss it and the future of web design.
