Here is where the confusion lies: those aren't images, and the way the navigation menu is designed you would have to code one from scratch in order to use images the way you are describing.

You are not understanding me: those are NOT images. They are plain text with whatever you've dictated in your theme settings for your menu background colour.

If you want custom images you can still request them, but you will need to code a new menu bar.

You will need the plugin Scott posted if you want to use images instead of the text menu you have now. But you can use css to make some pretty good looking non-image buttons. Here are some on my test site I just did now that are just text styled using css. I don't want to link to my live site but you can have them like traditional "buttons" or odd shaped as you can see in this screen cap. 



There are also some online button generators that work well too. Like here: cssgradientbutton.com/ (They too are just using css and not images)

If you still want image buttons just keep bumping this but keep in mind you will need the plugin.
