Photobucket - Please Read

Talk about covers a ton of topics all around one. UGH. I want to laugh a little here just because it's easier. While some are just learning about how images work as a whole,(on top of everything else) I'm wanting to know something else semi-related. I didn't know where to post it so I'll ask here and if it's too off the mark, someone can pull the post and place it where it needs to be.

I'm placing my images into my individual themes now so I don't end up with more of them going nuts like they did a week ago thanx to photobucket. I'm also using the attachments for topics/threads since I only need one or two once in a blue, blue moon. Leif doing what he has done to help with hosting via. Nickpic makes me want to be able to donate when I actually do join there. (yes, that means I haven't joined just yet lol)

I stopped making themes because of what I read and all this crap with photobucket. They are simple by design because none really stray far from default. I'm still in the learning stages. Not on theme making as a whole, just on learning css and html. I don't know anything at all about any of the rest. (java, javascript, etc etc etc - some of which gives me a headache lol) Makes it hard to branch out from default anything but I will learn. (slowly)

Now what I want to really know is how all this is going affect v6. The details as well as overall. How will images hosted outside PB as well as on it change? I've read mention of v6 on the image aspect and all that did was confuse me so please help me understand better. Thank you.

Right now we do not know how v6 will affect any content uploaded to PB itself; that said, I doubt the upload functionality will be removed. IF we need to change anything upload wise when v6 comes, there is an 18 month period where v5 and v6 themes will be useable simultaneously. At worst we would need to download images to our computer off our v5 themes to upload again to our v6 themes.

As far as images hosted off of PB, there is 0 reason they would be affected. The IMG tag will still work both in UBBC and HTML so the only issue would be to make sure that image is placed in a v6 theme.

Yes. Basically that is what it does. It archives and organizes them back into their albums. IT doesn't support sub albums however, just the primary albums.

Edit: The sub albums are still scraped, but they're treated like primary albums.

If you were a Plus Account subscriber in good standing as of June 1, 2017,
you will continue to have all the privileges you have enjoyed including 3rd
Party Hosting until December 31, 2018 as long as you maintain your
subscription.

Non Plus 500 Account subscribers that purchased after June 1, 2017 will not
have access to 3rd Party Hosting.

Too little too late.. many have already cleared their buckets and joined other hosting sites, I have joined Fotki and their customer service team is great. I had to contact them regards to another account as I needed to do setting up tutorials for my members, and they got back within 24hrs and really helpful.

Interesting. I do have a plus account, though not an expensive one. That explains why my images are still available. However, once I get mine hosted elsewhere (they're already downloaded), I will still be deleting my photos and account.

That isn't a certain cause and effect. I have members on my forum who only have free Photobucket accounts. But they still have access to their images. I really think that they are just finding us in phases and they will eventually find everyone.

Am I allowed to use the Proboards attachment feature or Custom Theme Images section to upload and "hotlink" to images on my own forum?

For example, I am using the shop plugin. If I hosted the shop items via Proboards attachments, and the images were only used on Proboards, would this be allowed?

I read a good article about this today pretty much saying that it doesn't matter what PhotoBucket does, their business is no longer viable due to many different reasons, no matter what formula they use. Which is amazing if you think about the actual numbers of people/businesses that use the site. This was a desperate attempt by them to stay above water.

IMO, there needs to be "pay as much as you use" model as far as hosting images goes. Something reasonable for people who use a small amount of both storage and bandwidth and the more you use of each, the more you pay.  I hate to say it but it needs to be "metered" as that would seem to be fairest way to keep prices down for light users and the best way to make high users pay for their share.

  What a nightmare this is! I really need to cut back on themes. lol I wish we could upload our images directly from our computers to the smiley plugin, etc. It would be so much easier. This having to find another hosting site is a PITA.
