Smudging A Photo

Hi,

I'm working on some forum icons and there is one in particular that I would love to see "smudged" around the edges. Here is a screenshot of what I mean:



Notice how the green rose has a little black smudged around the edges...I'd like the black rose (if possible) smudged around the edges in white. Here is the link to the black rose image:



I found the green rose icon already smudged, on the internet, but I just don't have the skills to smudge the black rose to match.

Your help would be so appreciated.

Can you post the green one so I can toss it on my graphics program to get a closer look to see more what you mean and kind of see what technique they might have used. I can't really tell by that screen cap although I think I see where it is smudged/blurred. If you do, I promise I'll give it a try to fix the black one.

Thanks for those images. I'm not sure if I got any of them how you want them but I tried several versions. The first one is your smaller gray image simply smudged:



This I started from scratch from your original image with two versions:


This one is smudged a bit more:


This one I took your green flower and turned to gray scale and tried to give it a smudged white edging.



This one is the above, just darkened a tiny bit.






Hopefully one of them will work but if not, feel free to bump and someone else can give it a try.

I'm glad those worked for you. Wasn't sure if I was really understanding exactly how you wanted them to look.

I think they look very pretty on your pretty forum (I love that color of green you are using). And thanks for the compliment. That means a lot considering I'm such a amateur.
