Hello! I'm working with an up and coming fantasy writer (http://elliwrites.com) who is about to launch her third book. I'd like to create a fan community forum for her. It'll be a good way to directly connect with her fanbase and following. My question is, should I get with her agents/marketing to see if I am allowed backend access and piggy back off her current domain? Or should I register a new URL and have that promoted instead? This will be the official fan forum where the author herself would be active on. Thanks all!

The former, if it will be the official forum. From my perspective it's better to have all officially affiliated content under the same domain as much as possible, so as to avoid any mistakes (either traffic going to the wrong page, copycat forums -- this has happened in my experience, it was very bizarre especially since they touted "official" content that was never approved by the author -- and the like).
