Preface: The description of my General Board says, "You can talk about anything here." but I was thinking about changing that because of the below. Unless I should have a board where things that are not of the subject matter can be discussed? But if you have a board on a certain subject, would you have a board where anything under the sun can be discussed?
Hey guys!
If you are not a forum about general things, but rather a certain subject matter, and you had a General Board for things that were not about the subject matter, would you allow things such as what are in the General Board here on PBS: anything under the sun, or would you have it where the subject matter would be things pertaining to the subject matter, but not covered in the other boards?
I ask because one of my new members posted a thread about insomnia last night, and it kind of brought up this question in my mind. I just wanted to get your opinions on it.
Thanks so much for your time and attention!

I have a forum with a specific topic, so I have both of what you're saying.
In the main section, I have a "general" board. It just covers everything that still falls under the topic in question. That's clearly marked as such. (Example: If you look at my board, you'll see that three boards in the "Game Shows" category will get into specific show discussion. The "general" board is for generalized game show discussion, including YouTube wishlists and any news/deaths.)
In the next category, there's an "off topic" section, for anything that doesn't have to do with the topic of my forum. That's reserved for pretty much anything not having to do with the topic, obviously. Again, it's marked.
That's just how I run my forum. I think it's easier to have two separate boards for that kind of thing.
