Freaking hate it. Not so much use to driving in rain but I didn't wreck so that's a plus. Though y'all may laugh at me for asking this or I just had a bad driving instructor. When turning you're suppose to slow down and break if need be right? I always get paranoid the person behind may not break when I go to make turns.

That is why your car is equipped with brake lights. It notifies the person behind you that: "hey, I need to hit my brakes lest I rear end this guy." Fortunately, the guy behind you has brake lights as well which notifies those behind him of the same message he just got from your brake lights. The more cars behind you, the more beautiful this experience becomes as the lights brighten up in steady succession. Of course, all it takes is one guy trying to text and drive to ruin this beautiful experience. This is where your paranoia comes in.

User 180565 is taking donation, turning also includes using your turn signal. This alerts cars behind and in front of your intent. And yes, slow down (and brake if necessary) when turning.

Indicate in advance so others know your intentions, if a car is a bit close behind, apply brake briefly lightly ahead of time, that will bring your brake lights on, then release, then apply brakes as normal for the turn, if the person behind still crashes into you, then their insurance should take care of any damage. It's not up to you to think for other drivers, but a little hint to them occasionally doesn't hurt (pre braking)

She thought the harder you put the brakes on, the brighter the brake lights would be.

It's not up to you to think for other drivers, but a little hint to them occasionally doesn't hurt (pre braking) I find this statement a little misleading. A good driver is aware of their surroundings which includes the other drivers. IMO it's prudent to be cognizant of other drivers' "behavior". More than once I've avoided an accident by "reading" the traffic, in fact the more you consciously do this, the more it becomes second nature and you do it without thinking about it. And while you don't actually 'think' for other drivers, you should always anticipate that they will do the unexpected.

You're right, a good driver is aware of other drivers etc, but if that were the case there would be no 'accidents' (i prefer to call them traffic incidents) One thing my Dad told me many years ago "know what the other driver (or pedestrian etc) is going to do before they know themselves"

Besides driving at the speed the conditions dictate - even if well below the speed limit - leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle AHEAD of you. Folks behind you try to force you to speed up sometimes; don't let them. And remember, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean you're wrong!
