Shoutbox Alternative?

Hello!

I've opened a new RPG and decided to have the shoutbox. It's working great and I've used it to help uncertain guests decide if they want to join. It's real-time without having to refresh. I can edit and delete comments. All things I want. My issue is that if I go to bed and members are chatty, I can't read back on the previous stuff - missing questions and such.

So I was wondering what everyone else uses, for those who have a chat option on their forums? Do you have any tips or recommendations?

i do not use it myself but i have used it in the past, i think you can read stuff back , like all of it

BUT , maybe you don't know this
you can actually read back  a lot more in the proboards shoutbox if you view it in the admin panel
i think up to 200 messages you can read back
you can find the shoutbox under the tab ''settings'' i believe

btw i believe i saw you bought ads for your forum, correct? yours showed up somewhere once for me
has them ads paid off yet? does it do any good , advertising wise?

I know a good majority of RP forums use Cbox. I don't know how far back it'll let you go, but you can view past messages.

I just use Discord and put a widget in the bottom right. bloodstainedfanforums.com/

I think the big one I've seen and used on my forums and others' forums has been the cbox.ws, free and premium versions. You can definitely go back in the history. Reading it can only get difficult if others are messaging while you're trying to catch up.

Lately though, I've seen more Discord in use. While I can see the function (separating chat from Q&A from tagging from plotting), I've also seen the downfalls. I wouldn't recommend having an IC channel on Discord because that often runs the risk of members migrating from the forums to the quick rapid-fire Discord chats.

That's just really my opinion from my experience through the forums (lurking time included).

I was really hoping that the shoutbox have a button like "show older messages". I have a forum ... without member but still I have shoutbox, those little chatboxes ... I really dislike them, so tiny on a side of forum. What I love at shoutbox is that is big and very pleasant to the eye.

If anyone know some good shoutbox like the default one we have, i'd really like a link to it

A vast majority of chatboxes have the option of changing the size. If all you have is "little chatboxes" then you have not used the correct settings. If you are using the ProBoards shoutbox, I recommend making a post in the support board for assistance on how to change the size; otherwise, I'd post in the Coding Help board.
