Code for outer border?

I am creating a theme that I would like to put 4px on the outer border just like the inner border -- I tried but it did not work. What would be the "call" CSS for this outer border?

Elements can only have one border. There is no CSS property for an "inner" and "outer" border. The illusion of an inner and outer border come from an element with a border existing within another element that also has a border.

This box has the appearance of an inner and outer border, but this is actually just a box with a white border inside another box with a red border.

The element you're trying to add multiple borders to would have to be placed inside another element.
