Need help with animation for forum badges...

I use the awards system plugin to create badges for my forum. I'm trying to make animated ones & was wondering if anyone knew how to take something like this...

& remove the background without loosing the animation, is that possible?

That image appears to be a PNG, meaning it has no animation since it consists of a single frame.

The image also seems to have a transparent background already. It's just on top of a light blue container.

Not sure what happened, but the items are usually animated. It's a catalog of all the no longer available items in the game. That's really weird, I've been using it for years & this has never happened before.
