I have no idea if there is a name for this kind of thing, but I once saw a forum that didn't look like a forum, but like one of those Sim RP software things. Basically, the interface looked like you might find in a browser-based game, and even when you went to post, there was a faint image in the background of the 'message body' text area, so you never lost that immersive look and feel.
I am trying to put together a Dragon Ball-themed forum, and I would like the players to feel immersed in the world and lore when they enter the forum. In fact, as much as possible, I would like to try and have help making a theme that gives it a Browser MMO vibe, instead of just a "this is a forum where we write stories" vibe.
I can provide elaboration as-needed. I don't remember the name of the site that came close to this vibe I'm talking about (you couldn't just click REGISTER, you had to click through an Introduction of sorts that told you about the game, then it would lead you to the Register page with the Terms of Service, etc).
Thank you!
EDIT: It just occurred to me, one of the features they had, was showing the boards and categories like a GUI of a game. You could click a button, and it would open up a menu that looked a tiny bit like the Sword Art Online interface (seen here). I know we're talking some Javascript and CSS and maybe even HTML, but I'm willing to work hard with someone to create that immersive experience.
