Help adding a text link to a forum's global header.

I am having trouble getting my plugin to add a clickable link to my forum when specific conditions are met.

Using the console, I can see that the conditions have been met, so the code that checks for them runs fine, however any attempt to return a string to display has been met with failure. I'm new to ProBroads plugin programming, so any basic help for this very basic problem would be appreciated.
