Yes. Go to your admin panel > structure > layout templates > home
Find this line:
<tr><td>$[birthdays_today_link]</td></tr>
On the default theme, it is on line 60. If you have modified your theme, it won't be on that exact line. Change that line to this:
<!--<tr><td>$[birthdays_today_link]</td></tr>-->
This will remove the birthday link entirely.
