NationStates BBCode

Proboards is used by a number of regions on NationStates.net, especially now that Zetaboards was sold to Tapatalk.

I was wondering if there's someone out there who can create a [nation] and [region] BBCode tag plugin. What this plugin would do would be generate BBCode to create the following types of links, where a user can put in the name of their nation or region and instead of "NATION_GOES_HERE" or "REGION_GOES_HERE" as below, it would input the name of their nation or region:

www.nationstates.net/nation=NATION_GOES_HERE
www.nationstates.net/region=REGION_GOES_HERE

It should be noted any spaces should be rendered as underscores _ as in my example.

If someone is able to do this, I would personally really appreciate it. Thank you!

I can personally attest to Cormac's repute within the NationStates community. Many NationStates regions use proboards forums and a plugin would help substantially as region and nation tags are used on nationstates.net. Compatibility by way of a plugin would help dramatically and incite more regions to further foster their communities through ProBoards

It's possible that Chris's Quick Reply BBCode Buttons plugin may be able to do what you are asking as you can add custom UBBCode buttons with it.

Or..

You can use the censored Words list to achieve what you are asking.. To a point. You would have to type the [nation] and [region] tags instead of using a button, and you would need to type underscores as the censored words list won't be able to target them to change.

Or..

You could use a mixture of the Censored Words list and a small plugin to change the spaces to underscores.

Or, finally, you can request a dedicated plugin to get exactly what you are asking.. This may be a longshot with V6 on the horizon, I'm not sure if anyone would be willing to take this on. I can have a look, but I am quite busy right now, so you may be waiting a while.

Of cause, you can use one of the other options while you are waiting for a plugin to be created.

This is really wonderful! Thank you for getting back to the OP. I'll start experimenting with these ideas and let you know how it goes.

In the Quick Reply BBCode plugin, for [nation] tags:-

tag (required) - nation

image (required) - The URL of an image you'd like to be displayed as a button.

title - Nation

The rest of the fields can be left blank, do the same for the [region] tags.

I'd also select 'BBCode Tab', but NOT 'Preview Tab'

You will then need to add the tags to your Censored Words list.

Again for the [nation] tags you need to add..

[nation] and change it to www.nationstates.net/nation=

and

[/nation] and leave the Replacement Word tab empty. Do NOT select 'Exact Word'.

Do that and you should have working [nation] and [region] tabs, but you WILL need to add the underscores manually.
