Hello,
so far I've not allowed any sales or trade listings, but there have been two posts now that kind of made sense so that I now want to allow sales and trade posts, but with the caveat that they must be links to ebay or another online trading platform and to make it clear that the forum organisers are not liable for anything that goes wrong in a sales transaction between members.
What are your rules on trading and sales?

What are your rules on trading and sales? For about twelve years, we had a board called "The Hock Shop" where members could put up used guitars and gear for sale. It got moderate usage but that tended to fall off in later years. In the final year, it wasn't active at all. Last year during a forum reorganization, we just mothballed that board and hid it. Just recently we had a member suggest a board for selling/trading. I was pretty much against it due to the implied liability. But one of the other senior staff members wants to give it another try, with the same sort of strategy as you've outlined. So we'll probably do that.

My forum does "tape trading", which is a huge thing in the game show community.
I set up minor rules. One of which asked all members to not give out personal information in a post. If they wanted to conduct trading, they would have to go into messaging or to a website (if one was provided in the post). I didn't want to have anyone's information plastered over the internet like that. Pretty much all of the members have abided by that so far, because I've said that they'd be banned from trading if they were to post anything like that in public.
