One of our local grocery stores (Stop and Shop) is experiencing an employee walkout - you need groceries badly, would you cross their picket line? They are trying to keep people from going into the stores. And it's working.

Tough call....I believe workers have a right to strike if they feel they are being treated unfairly. Although....I do need to eat. If possible I would go to another store, but if I couldn't I guess I wouldn't have a choice but to cross.

It would depend if I agree with the strike and reasons it has happen and I guess if its the only store near that sells what I'm wanting.

Absolutely. The employees’ squabble with their employer is none of my business and not my problem. This is the kind of situation that stokes my anti-union sentiments. For all the good unions have done for their members throughout history—and they absolutely, undeniably have—modern unions have a tendency to overstep at just about every turn (if they aren’t completely ineffective and impotent). In this case, they’re trying the time-honored tactic of roping the public into fighting their fight.
I have no problem with the workers striking if that’s the course of action they feel is necessary. No one should allow their employer to take advantage of them. But a line is crossed the minute they attempt to interfere with the extended operations of the company. A mob attempting to dissuade customers from entering a store garners no sympathy from me.
Also, according to the link, the union president thinks $3 a week for health insurance is going to dissuade part-time workers? Haha, WTF?! Does he know he’s actively making the company look good? I think I’m starting to feel sympathy for the striking workers again, but only because the man in charge of their union is an incompetent joke.

At a hospital years ago, we were union, and I hated thinking about healthcare workers striking. It goes against every fiber of my being to deny someone healthcare just because I want better benefits. I was glad when I left there. As for the question at hand, since Jim does all our food shopping, I'll let him make that decision (see above), hahahahahah.

I'd cross without a second thought. Not my problem unless they try to stop me, then we'd have a problem.

Yes I would. Feeding my family is more important than supporting employees. Charity begins at home.

One of the things that I don't think the Union thought of is all of the fresh food that is going to spoil, (or maybe they did and they thought it would be an ace in the hole) people who can only get certain food in this store (Passover foods) and folks like my husband and me who lived through the late '80s - we lost EVERYTHING and Greg had to become a 'scab' to keep food on the table.
As far as the spoiled food goes, the store is sort of looking good and gaining sympathy by donating everything to local soup kitchens and pantries and even people who brave the picket lines.
