I recently purchased Burn Your Portfolio: Stuff they don't teach you in design school, but should and am reading through that. I don't read a great deal of fiction these days. I read a lot of programming/software related books, and the occasional design book. This book is more about career success than it is graphic design, per se. Though it's geared to the industry in general.

A John Grisham novel, ' The Last Juror', I have read it a while back so I thought I would give it another read. In 1970, The Ford County Times, one of Mississipi's more colourful weekly newspapers, went bankrupt. To the surprise and dismay of many, ownership was assumed by 23-year-old college drop-out, Willie Traynor. The future of the paper looked grim until a young mother was brutally raped and murdered by a member of the notorious Padgitt family. Traynor reported all the gruesome details, and his newspaper began to prosper. The murderer, Danny Padgitt, was tried before a packed courtroom in Clanton, Mississippi. The trial came to a startling, dramatic end when the defendant threatened revenge against the jurors if they convicted him. Nevertheless, they found him guilty, and he was sentenced to life in prison. But in Mississippi in 1970 'life' didn't necessarily mean 'life', and nine years later Danny Padgitt managed to get himself paroled. He returned to Ford County, and the retribution began.

Thinking of ordering take out for dinner or picking up the phone to place an order for delivery by going "Yes, I would like to place an order for delivery. I would like ... ... ..."?

Not reading anything currently, but I went to the used bookstore today and picked up a very old book that was oddly sitting in the sci fi section and bought it without knowing what it was about. Turns out it's the autobiography of Benvenuto Cellini, a goldsmith and sculptor. The book is from the 1930's and Wiki says, "It has been considered and published as a classic, and commonly regarded as one of the most colorful autobiographies (certainly the most important autobiography from the Renaissance)," and "The memoirs give a detailed account of his singular career, as well as his loves, hatreds, passions, and delights, written in an energetic, direct, and racy style; as one critic wrote, "Other goldsmiths have done finer work, but Benvenuto Cellini is the author of the most delightful autobiography ever written." Can't wait to get started on it!

- Jade City, by Fonda Lee
- Steamborn, by Eric Asher
- Kill Creek, by Scott Thomas
- A Darker Shade of Magic, by V.E. Schwab
- Girls of Paper and Fire, by Natasha Ngan
- The Meaning of Birds, by Jaye Robin Brown
- We Set The Dark On Fire, by Tehlor Kay Mejia
I've fallen behind on my reading goal for the year since the start of the year was so busy, so I'm really trying to catch up now. Mostly Jade City so far, which is just so so good.

I just finished DARKNESS AT NOON by Arthur Koestler.
I got out CRIME AND PUNISHMENT to read, but I'm not sure if I will read it next or read some Edgar Allen Poe. Maybe some Sherlock Holmes. I'll have to see how I feel tonight or tomorrow when I can sneak a few minutes.
I just finished two other books by Amor Towles. RULES OF CIVILITY and A GENTLEMAN IN MOSCOW are excellent reads.

Just remember I'm in love with books so it stands to reason I would be a little OCD about them (hence my title and avatar): Dianne, you don't have OCD. People with OCD are not 'in love' with their obsessions and compulsions. They would do anything to be free of them. OCD centres around the fear of causing harm....either to oneself, or another. If you suffer with OCD, it's a living nightmare. It's not pleasant. You may be 'obsessional and compulsive' where books are concerned, but you don't have OCD. You don't have a 'disorder'. If you truly had OCD, your thinking would be along the lines of: "if I don't buy/read this book, then something bad will happen...either to me...or my family...or friends.
