Forum Events with Rewards

What are your thoughts on providing rewards of value to your community using events on your forum? Is this something you've tried in the past, or are currently doing?

GamingBoards.net is hosting an event for this May.2019 and the winner will walk away with a $25 Steam Gift Card. This is our way of giving back to the community while increasing activity. We're hoping for a successful event, however, only time will tell.

We host an annual Homecoming Week on our forum. Nothing too special, just a mass email, a thread to celebrate, and a guitar trivia quiz.

This results in quite a few members logging on who haven't posted in a good long while. Some of them post in the celebration thread and/or participate in the quiz. Others just log on and look around. In any case, it's always nice to see some familiar names online.

I have been wondering this too. Currently I am hosting a short story contest on my RP forum, and the winner (with their submission) will be announced at the top of the forum, so everyone can see their great work.

On another RP forum, I gave away more character slots.

I don't know what you'd do with a non-RP forum, but some ideas (for RP) could be odd characters to play (if you're a wolf RP, you can let the winner play as a fox); unusual colors/powers/abilites for fantasty RPs; and so on, for some ideas!

Anyone else have ideas, since I have been wondering about this too!
