formatting tools - how to questions

Hi all,

I'd start by saying that I'm not new with using the ProBoards app, platform, considering for some good years now, me and my friends we've been successfully using more than one forum, mainly for gaming, for grouping activities as gamers

I'm usually the creator and Admin of the forum for our team, since it's looks like I have some extra time to handle those tasks, as opposed to my teammates that are not so very active or interested in Admin duties, as such I am often the Admin and the face of our forum, whatever that forum may be, for one game or another

here is the main issue I'm bringing to your attention because I need some extra bit of help:

formatting tools and/or adding links, pictures, videos, etc. - are not available, visible on the new forum while posting

- I/we 've just started a new forum since once again, we try to migrate as a team, to a game

this time, I've decided, for the time being, to use a new theme, not the default one, so that may be part of the problem, I'm not sure that's why I'm writing this post here, to ask for help and assistance

now, formatting tools are not available, nor the adding links, pictures, videos, etc. while creating and/or editing a post
also, it looks like there is no difference in the "Preview" and "BBCode" mode of posting, it doesn't seem to matter how or what we chose, it looks the same at the time of writing the post

now, this is not happening with the other forums, we're already using, just this new one I've recently started, so I assume I did something wrong when I set it up first

so, this is my main question:
- how do I bring back the regular formatting tools and the buttons of adding a link, a picture, a video, etc. while creating and/or editing a post

we also have the default "Quick reply" enabled, and I forgot how to disable that... can you point me in the right direction on this too, how can I enable/disable the "Quick reply" mode

here is the forum link, if anyone may need to check it out - altho' it's not really open to register without approval, but as a Guest, I assume it can be visible at a first glance by anyone

You mentioned that you've created a new forum but the one you've linked was created last November. Is this the forum having the issue?

I can see all the tools that you've mentioned were missing in when creating/editing posts. Just want to confirm, is this happening to all of your members?

In regards to the toggling quick reply, you can disable it by clicking the "No" radio button located in your admin panel > settings > forum settings > forum tab > boards and threads > quick reply.

yes, that's the forum, altho' it's indeed not newly created, as you mention, it was maybe not the best choice of words on my part, hehe...  I've said "new" more in the sense that's the newest to us, the last one, that we're trying to use lately... but you're correct it was in fact created last November...

oddly enough, now me too I can see the formatting tools and adding links/pics/videos buttons as it's supposed to be, so I'm confused too, but I'm glad whatever it was it's fixed now...

I've been working in the last 2-3 days, maybe one full week on that forum, and I wasn't able to see and as such use those formatting tools or adding links, so it's kind of odd, I wonder what could cause that... maybe a corrupted cache that cleared somehow by itself... something was wrong, as that's why I was asking for help, but I'm glad it's fixed now, even if I don't fully understand what happened...

thank you also for pointing me on how to disable the quick reply, I found it and changed the setting, all good now, works as intended...

my problem as described above is back, I have the same problem again

I could post screenshots if need it, but anyone can check if they visit as a guest...


\if the problem it's on my end, maybe a local setting, on my computer, I sure would like to know what it is, so I can correct it

even now, while I'm writing this message, I can't switch between Preview mode to BBCode mode and back, my only option is to use just the BBCode...

even now, I can't see nor use the formatting tools, if I'd like to say boldly some text, I'd need to use BBCode, not the buttons that are usually available

something is clearly not right and it gives me a lot of frustrations, as I can't use it as intended - if it's on my end, please let me know what should I do, I need help with this...

on top of it, I have a pending new member registration, I'm the admin, I can clearly see the pending registration, yet I can't accept it, nothing happens when I click the accept button, absolutely nothing, it makes no difference if I click "Accept" or not, I can't proceed to accept the new member registration that's in pending

it's a similar effect with trying to switch between BBCode view and Preview, nothing happens, and I can't switch, I'm only in BBCode mode...

please, I need help with this...

no, I didn't do that, I was thinking about doing it, but I am reluctant to do it, as every time when I do this operation, all my usernames/passwords logins for all the sites I need to log in will be messed up, creating a lot of hassle on my end to enter those, to type them manually again and again on multiple sites, and I'm not talking about doing it just a few times, but a lot, really on multiple times...

last time when I was "forced" so to speak to do a clear of cache/cookies, it took me more than one week to restore everything, and that's putting it lightly... as such, I'm very reluctant to do this step again...

especially if it won't fix the problem, after performing a clear cache/cookies...

everything else works fine on my computer-laptop, I even did a checdsk on my own, as my own troubleshooting, all is good on that end too...

also, on the forum in question, as an added issue, I've set up a favicon, it looks it took it fine, it shows in the admin section as my new favicon it's there... yet, I can't see the custom favicon I've set up while using the forum... so, that'd be a second issue with this forum of ours...

Ghiby, can you try accessing the forum using a different browser and see if the issue is still present.

I should also mention, if it helps with the troubleshooting, that I see, experience the same behavior with other forums under ProBoards as well, not just the one with the link I've posted, but all the forums I'm managing as admin at least two others I've check, it's the same, behavior, I can switch between BBCode and Preview and back, and no formatting tools either

also, I noticed, the great feature that we - our group at least - love, with the menu and submenu that's automatically formed to navigate from one category and/or forum to another, on the upper left side, that one is also not working anymore...

this is very weird behavior and sadly it's not the first time when it happens...

I was thinking it may be on my end, local, something on my laptop, but then again, everything else works fine on my laptop, except forums here on ProBoards, or at least I can't pinpoint another issue, similar or not, that may not work on my laptop, at the same time with this issue I'm having now on ProBoards forum

I'm very confused, and somewhat frustrated, because I have a new member registration pending, and I can't accept it, nothing happens when I click on "Accept" button, so it won't allow me to accept the new member

that's why I'm asking for help here and I appreciate you guys looking into this trying to help me

I'll keep monitoring this thread in the next 2-4 hrs. waiting for advice

Ghiby, it sounds like possibly you have JavaScript disabled. Are you able to check this in your browser settings? Or do you have a security program installed that may be interfering?

OK, this is very odd...

I'm usually using chrome as my main default browser, I never use any other browser except for troubleshooting purpose like in this case here

I've launched IE - Internet Explorer - and it works fine, as intended...

then I've launched Firefox, and it's not working, same effect, same issue like on Chrome - now, my Firefox was outdated, since I'm not using it, so I said maybe that's part of the problems, as such I've updated tot he last available version, tried again, still not working in Firefox either...

yes, me too I've considered the JavaScript if enabled - or not - in Chrome, as such I've checked and it is clearly enabled...

now, I'm on Firefox and still not working... while oddly enough it works in IE... this is puzzling...

if I have a security program, and I do have firewall and antivirus, I didn't made any recent updates and/or changes and/or install/uninstall of any of those since yesterday... when it worked just fine, yesterday I mean, now it's not working...

so, I'm totally confused

I'm now, on Chrome, incognito and it's the same thing... still not able to see the formatting tools, switch to Preview and all the rest, are not working...

I am now using Opera with VPN enabled, one of the best featues of Opera and it works fine

so, this is quite puzzling, 

Chrome and Firefox is not working

IE and Opera is working...

I'm no expert, to make a fair assessment, but this is very odd...
