Absolutely. ProBoards forums are highly customizable. You could set your forum to be accessible only to approved, or even invited members if you wish. There are several options depending on how private you wish to keep the forum.

I would say that it's very, very dependent on what you intend to do internally. As mentioned, privacy options / preventing outside interference is pretty decent here, but there are some limitations.

Since the forums are remotely hosted, you're unable to set it up on any internal networks / prevent access from those not signed into VPN. You will also have ads (with the option to pay for their removal per month or 50,000 page views whichever comes first) and ProBoards branding / terms of service that you must abide by, regardless of what your business's rules are (for clarity you can have your business rules still applicable and enforceable by whomever you designate to help moderate the forum, but if your business rules are contrary to the PB TOS then the TOS supersedes your rules).

If you are looking for a more long-term solution that offers Single Sign-on, insite forwarding, etc, to make it more of a true 'business' forum, you might be better off looking at the plans on PB's sister service, forums.net (:
