Well, it's been over a month and no new breaks in the string. I can't say for certain the Tobasco sauce was what deterred the squirrel from chewing the wires. Maybe it stopped for other reasons. But I'll claim victory anyway.

Squirrel 1, Retread 1.

Now there's a decision to be made. Do I reapply the treatment or just wait and see if/when the wires are chewed again?

If you keep them up all year, it's probably best to reapply every so often.

If you keep them up all year, it's probably best to reapply every so often.

I would recommend at least once a month.  If you notice a visitor back to snack at the light buffet more often, then once every couple of weeks.
